Local Veterans Announce Formation of Mark DeSaulnier for Congress Veterans Committee

Veterans for DeSaulnier Committee to host health care town hall on Monday, August 17

WALNUT CREEK, CA - The Mark DeSaulnier for Congress campaign reports that over twenty local veterans in the 10th Congressional District announced the formation of Veterans for Mark DeSaulnier in support of DeSaulnier's bid for Congress. Senator Mark DeSaulnier will join the Veterans for Mark DeSaulnier Committee and host a Town Hall on Health Care on Monday, August 17 to discuss President Obama's health care plan and how it relates to veterans in CD 10.

"We are proud to endorse Mark DeSaulnier for Congress because he has fought for and protected local veterans in the 10th Congressional District," said local veteran Steve Filson.  "Mark's fight for veterans locally in CD 10 has won him well deserved local veteran support in his race for Congress.  Veterans will be able to count on Mark to continue to fight for better health care and benefits for veterans when he is in Congress," Filson added.

"I am honored to receive such strong and local support from veterans endorsing my candidacy in the 10th CD," Senator Mark DeSaulnier said.  "As a Contra Costa County Supervisor, Assemblyman and Senator, I have worked to protect our veterans at the local level. When I am in Congress I will continue to honor our veterans by ensuring local access to Veteran's health facilities in Livermore, Solano County, and the East Bay, expanding health care and mental heath services, improving access to housing, creating better job placement, increasing educational opportunities, and support for our military families."

BACKGROUND:

The Town Hall on Health Care and Veterans Affairs marks the second town hall hosted by DeSaulnier to address President Obama's health care plan. Without a sitting Congressperson in Congressional District 10, Senator DeSaulnier is hosting health care town halls so CD 10 residents have the opportunity to become more informed about President Obama's health care plan and ask questions about how the plan will affect the people of CD 10.  DeSaulnier will discuss President Obama's current health care plan and how he will fight for increased access and quality of treatment for all and specifically veterans in CD 10. DeSaulnier has made health care reform a priority in this Congressional race and will continue to fight for increased access to quality affordable health care for all when he is in Congress.

DeSaulnier, a Democrat, has also been endorsed by Congressman George Miller, Assemblyman Tom Torlakson, over a dozen local labor unions and over two dozen local elected officials.  To view a complete list of Senator Mark DeSaulnier's endorsements for Congress please click here

DeSaulnier is a candidate for former Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher's seat in the 10th Congressional District.  Tauscher retired from Congress in June.
