Dear Friends,

Although we did not get the result we had hoped for on election night, I am deeply grateful to all of you who stood with us to fight for our community. I can say in confidence, because of your efforts, our campaign was an amazing success.
 
This campaign was such a success because it was not about me. It was about creating something larger than any one individual.  It was our ability to come together as a community to fight for the belief that, united, we can make this district a better place. 
 
Despite the disappointing result, we have captured an incredible victory. We have brought our community together to rally around the idea that the common wealth is more important than individual wealth. We stood up for a core set of values that resonated in every knock, every call, and in every volunteer that we worked with.   
 
It is now time to come together once more. After a tough campaign, we must rally together to support the Democratic nominee from the 10th Congressional District. Congratulations to Lt. Gov. John Garamendi in his victory. We are sure he will be an outstanding advocate for this district in Congress. 
 
This experience has reaffirmed the joys of public service. I am truly honored to have had the ability to represent you for 25 years, and I will continue to work tirelessly to represent you honestly, faithfully, and to the best of my ability.

The credit belongs not to the critic, but to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly, who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause; who, at best, knows the triumph of high achievement; and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.”
